Our cowherd consists of 130 purebred Angus females with about 95 reds and 35 blacks.
We rarely use A.I. but seek out the best possible walking bulls from proven genetics for use in our herd.
Our herd consists of large groups of siblings selected for consistency. We strive for cows that are sound footed, have milking ability, and the ability to raise calves under all conditions.
We are not showring people, preferring to specialize in production of top quality working breeding stock for our commercial customers.
In our system our cows generally go to pasture in the last two weeks of May. The calves are weaned the first week of October and the cows graze on our hay fields where we only take one cut and leave the second cut for grazing. From November 15 to January 15 they are swath grazed, and then brought home for calving in February/March. In May they are moved to small pastures for breeding and fed until there is grass.
After weaning the calves are fed growing rations consisting of oats, supplements and free choice hay. We strive to simplify things as much as we can so that the cows work for us and not the other way around. This we feel helps us to provide the kind of cattle that will work for our customers without a lot of fuss and bother.
